PRAYER FOR THE WEEK

Please pray this week for the farming community whose desperately need rain to help the crops so that there will be no significant shortages over the winter months.  Pray also for those people who are affected by wildfires remembering the people of Greece where at least eighty people (and possibly more) have lost their lives trapped by the ferocity of the fires.  Remember too the people of Scandinavia where unprecedented heat has caused forest fires also with the lost of life.

Amen

ST. MARY’S AUTUMN COACH TRIP – Our trip this time will be on Saturday 20th October to the Anderton Boat Lift near Northwich in Cheshire.  It will include a 75 minutes’ boat trip through the boatlift originally built in 1875 from the Trent & Mersey canal to the River Weaver where we shall continue along the River Weaver to Northwich and back. The cost is £30 Adult, £25 Child, including the price of the boat trip. There is a café on site which does sandwiches, jacket potatoes, paninis, chips and the like. PLEASE NOTE that the coach is now full but I am willing to make a reserve list in case anyone drops out. Martin Skeffington

JAM JARS – Thank you to all of you who leave jam jars in the hall kitchen for me knowing that I make jam and marmalade.  However at the moment I have a glut and I really do not need anymore for the time being.  I respectfully suggest therefore that you take them to a bottle bank near you for recycling.  I will let you know when I am next running short. Martin Skeffington

ST. EDMUND’S ANNUAL COACH TRIP – On Friday 3rd August 2018 St. Edmund’s, Holme Pierrepont have their annual coach trip.  This year it is to York and will cost £20 for an adult leaving Radcliffe from outside the Grange at 8.30am.  There are some seats available so if anyone is interested please contact Ian Godson to book a place.

HARVEST SUPPER – On Saturday 13th October there will be a Harvest Supper in St. Mary’s Hall for up to 70 persons, with Canon Alan Haydock giving one of his talks. Outside caterers have been invited to provide the food and a menu choice will be provided (including vegetarian option).  This will give us the opportunity to sit down together, enjoy the meal, without the bother of preparing the food ourselves thereby giving our cooks a rest!  The cost per person is £20 (£15 for a child under 14 years old) with a lucky ticket winning a prize.  There will also be a cloakroom raffle with all profits going to church funds.  Tickets/menu are now ready from Martin & Christine Skeffington. If you would like a glass of wine or other alcoholic beverage please could you bring your own?  Teas/coffee will be available afterwards. So that we are not rushed at the end and to give the caterers good notice it would be helpful if you could let us have your choice of menu before the end of August.

LINK MAGAZINE - We are in need of help to deliver the magazines to cover holidays and sickness, mainly in the Shelford Road area but would be pleased to hear from anyone in other areas of the village who would be prepared to help on an occasional basis. We also require help during the holiday season with delivering the bundles of magazines to the Distributors (who then go on to deliver to our subscribers). A car would be necessary and some lifting is involved. If you think you would be able to help in either capacity please contact Jenny Hudson -This email address is being protected from spambots. £4.6m. TO DEVELOP CHURCH GROWTH PROGRAMME - Southwell & Nottingham Diocese has been granted £4.6 million from a national strategic development fund to support a range of initiatives related to its focus on ‘Growing Disciples – wider, younger and deeper’. The grant from the Church Commissioners will help to develop four new resourcing churches – these are churches that are growing numerically and spiritually and work with other churches to plant new worshipping communities; local leadership teams are already working with senior clergy in the diocese to develop plans for spiritual and numerical growth at these existing churches.
