St Mary's Radcliffe on Trent

Working in love to glorify God

ALPHA COURSE - On the 17th April at 7.30pm in St Mary's Hall we begin our next Alpha Course for anyone wanting to explore the Christian faith for the first time or who simply want to know more. There are flyers with more information at the back of church. There are also sign up sheets in church for people who would be willing to be a part of a team to help with either the cooking or the serving and clearing up on the night. From past experience the acts of kindness shown by those cooking and serving often speak louder than all the words spoken by the Alpha leaders. Please do come and be part of this amazing ministry. If you would like to book your place on the course, please be praying and thinking about whom you might invite who does not already come to church. Please contact Rachel.

ACPM - This year's annual meeting will take place on Monday 16th April at 7.30pm in the church. It's at this meeting where we review the work of the church during 2017. Members of the PCC are elected and people with other roles are recognised. As you know, Dave Townsend has decided that his time as churchwarden has come to an end and so we will hopefully also be appointing a new person to this key role. If you are interested in joining the PCC, then current members would be very happy to answer questions. Nomination forms can be found at the back of church. If you'd like to know more about being a churchwarden, then Mark Tanner, Sue Megahy or Dave Townsend will be very happy to help. Harry Hughes (PCC Secretary)

DISCIPLESHIP, GOSPEL AND GIVING - Bishop Paul hosted two sessions in January entitled Discipleship, Gospel and Giving at which he explored the challenges and opportunities that arise around discipleship and financial giving.  Addressing the financial needs attached to resourcing your church’s mission, including parish share, can often feel a burden. How do you continue to nurture a culture of generous giving? What can you do to help people to grow in the gift of giving as part of their spiritual formation as followers of Christ?  These are some of the issues that Bishop Paul addresses in the video we have had produced of his keynote address filmed on the evening of 30th January at St Nic’s Nottingham.  For access to the video and other details please click on the link if you are able.

ELECTORAL ROLL - A revision of St Mary’s Electoral Roll is currently taking place in readiness for the Annual Parish Council Meeting on Monday 16th April. If you are not on the Electoral Roll and would like to be added to it, please complete one of the forms on the table at the rear of the church by Sunday 21st March. You need to be on the Roll in order to vote at the APCM or if you wish to be nominated for PCC membership. If you are not sure whether or not you are already on the Roll, you can check by referring to the current copy of the Roll (also on the table) or contact Carol Payne, Electoral Roll Officer.

RACHEL’S PRIESTING – On Saturday 30th June Rachel’s priesting will take place in Southwell Minster.  We are sure that many of you will wish to go along and support her in this her next stage of her curacy.  We have therefore hired a 59 seater coach which will leave from outside Grange Hall at 2.30pm returning from Southwell at 6pm.  To help with numbers will you please let me know if you would like to come. Thank you. Martin Skeffington

MESSY CHURCHMuch prayer, planning and preparation has been employed for each event over the past six and a half years but both the volunteer team and the number of families attending has declined over recent months. It has become apparent that we need to take a break. We plan to meet again in September (date to be arranged) to further review the future of Messy Church at St Mary's and in the meantime, conduct a survey of families who have an interest in Messy Church. To the team, thank you all for your support, hard work and contribution to the Messy Church Ministry. Cori Cryer

FESTIVAL EVENSONG - On Easter Sunday at 6.00 pm there will be a Festival Evensong at St Mary’s. This will be a traditional service with four hymns, a psalm for all to sing, and a setting of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis. The anthem will be an old favourite – Blessed be the God and Father by S.S. Wesley. Do come and share this celebration of Easter with the Festival Choir. Richard Eaton

BAPTISM OF FLORENCE BUCK - James, Amanda and Isabel Buck are excited to announce the Christening of their second daughter, Florence on Sunday 8th April at 12.30pm at St. Mary’s followed by a reception afterwards in St. Mary’s Hall and an invitation is extended to all church friends. It would be helpful if you could RSVP by next Sunday so that catering arrangements can be made – if you forget please do not worry. James Buck

“SPACE ACADEMY HOLIDAY CLUB” - Please will you save empty cereal packets, or other small boxes, Pringles’ tubes, kitchen roll middles, washing up liquid bottles, margarine tubs (with lids) and yoghurt pots. Please wash and dry the plastic items. I will put a box at the back of Church to collect these items for junk modelling. We will be making space crafts and robots. Please pray for the leaders and those helping at holiday club or with preparations. Pray too for all the children who will attend - that they will have amazing fun and grow in their understanding of Jesus and His love for them. Please let me  have these items before April 10th when Holiday Club starts. Cori Cryer

LINK DISTRIBUTOR REQUIRED - A Distributor is required to deliver LINK magazine each month to Trent View Gardens, 16 in total. Help is always available to cover sickness and holidays. If you live on Trent View Gardens or nearby and feel you would be able to help please contact Jenny Hudson. Thank you.

You are most welcome to stay for refreshments after each Sunday service, to enjoy each other’s company and to welcome both newcomers and visitors.

Shelford has its own Messy Church the next one being the last Wednesday afternoon in April. We look forward to seeing you. Please pray for Messy Church in Shelford, for their leaders and everyone who take part.  Please pray also that the right decisions are made with regard to the future of Messy Church in Radcliffe.

Please pray for Rock Solid, for the youngsters who attend and the leaders and volunteers who help out; pray that members will find coming to Jesus as fulfilling and rewarding as having a fun time.  Please  pray for more helpers, particularly males, so that useful relationships can be built up leading youngsters to a more spiritual and fruitful life. The next Rock Solid after today will be in St. Mary’s Hall on Sunday 29th April 2018 at 6.30pm.
