St Mary's Radcliffe on Trent

Working in love to glorify God
and proclaim Jesus Christ as Saviour

Thy Kingdom Come prayer week
10th to 20th May 2018

What is Thy Kingdom Come?

 Thy Kingdom Come is a global prayer movement, which invites Christians around the world to pray between Ascension and Pentecost for more people to come to know Jesus Christ. What started out as an invitation from the Archbishops of Canterbury and York to the Church of England in 2016 has grown into an international and ecumenical call to prayer.

 The hope is that:

  • people will commit to pray with God’s world-wide family - as a church, individually or as a family;
  • churches will hold prayer events, such as 24-7 prayer, prayer stations and prayer walks, across the UK and in other parts of the world;
  • people will be empowered through prayer by the Holy Spirit, finding new confidence to be witnesses for Jesus Christ.

Prayer Walking Radcliffe – 10th to 20th May

As part of Thy Kingdom Come, the churches in Radcliffe plan to prayer walk every single street in Radcliffe and Upper Saxondale.

What is prayer walking?

A prayer walk is when you walk down a street praying as you go.  You can pray generally for the street or there may be specific things to pray for.  You can go alone but it’s often better with two or a small group.  We will be doing a more detailed guide with some helpful advice.

How can I get involved?

From Ascension Day (Thursday 10th May) there will be a map of Radcliffe in the foyer of St Anne’s Roman Catholic Church on New Road. Choose a few streets and then just go and walk and pray.  Highlight the streets you cover on the map before you set off or after you come back so we know where we’ve been (it doesn’t matter though if we do the same street twice!).

Christians Together in Radcliffe

United Service

On Sunday 20th May (Pentecost) at 4pm there will be a United Service at the Methodist church to mark the end of Thy Kingdom Come and share the stories of our prayer walking.

Prayer Stations @ Radcliffe Methodist Church

There will be a prayer station at the Methodist Church through Thy Kingdom Come where anyone coming into the building will be invited to offer a prayer.

Mark Robert’s Challenge

The Methodist Minister, Mark Roberts has challenged his congregation with an  extreme prayer challenge of getting a photo of yourself praying somewhere unusual (and safe!) and then sending it to Mark.  The best photo wins a prize!   Mark & Rachel’s challenge is to inundate him with St. Mary’s folk praying in even more unusual places!!

After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken.  And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.

Acts 4:31

Thy Kingdom Come Prayer

Almighty God, your ascended Son has sent us into the world to preach the good news of your kingdom: inspire us with your Spirit and fill our hearts with the fire of your love, that all who hear your Word may be drawn to you, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done, on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.
