St Mary's Radcliffe on Trent

Sharing God's Love

Ben became a Christian at university and spent the next decade serving as a missionary to students in Bristol and Nottingham before training for ordained ministry at Ridley Hall, Cambridge. Ben has been married to Elise for almost two years; they have no children and are currently debating whether cats or dogs are coolest.

Ben is being ordained in Southwell Minster on Sunday 30th June 2019 and will join us the very next day!

Hello! I’m Ben Evans, and I’ll be joining you as a new curate.
I can’t tell you how good it feels to write that and finally introduce myself. My wife and I have known for a few months now that we’d be moving to Radcliffe-on-Trent and we can’t wait to meet some of you and settle into life in the village. The journey in the Church of England towards becoming a clergy person is a long and interesting one, full of continued learning, and I’m looking forward to all the things I’ll be learning from you about life, God, and how the local church does – or doesn’t – fit into it all.
After coming to faith in Jesus at university (while drunk – do ask!) my life was utterly changed. Then, when I graduated, I wanted to continue sharing God’s message of purpose and welcome so I got involved in university outreach and mentoring. That was a special time for me but as we went on I felt God calling me more towards serving and investing in people across the spectrum of age and experience, to help explore all of human life, hope and frustration.
My wife (Elise) and I met in a church in Nottingham seven or so years ago. I’m English and she’s French, which means visiting the in-laws is always accompanied by awesome food but for some reason it doesn’t seem to mean that I can beat her at English Bananagrams (a quick version of Scrabble). Elise loves modern calligraphy, the countryside, speaking French and good food.
We have spent the last three years in beautiful Cambridge but this will be our first experience of English village life. If you see a couple of bemused looking people wondering about the place, a little lost – that’s us!
